https://dariarts.com/ Aripeka is a small town, named after Indian chief of Miccosukee Tribe of Indians in Florida. The first recorded settlers arrived in 1859. The first Post Office was established in 1883. In March of 1905, a newspaper article described Aripeka as ..."beautifully located on a fine bay opening into the Gulf of Mexico. A year ago only Mr. and Mrs. Ellis lived here, but now there is a prosperous settlement of more than fifty white people with a considerable number of colored laborers. There are many nice families that will make good neighbors and a prosperous community. They have an excellent school, a church and Sunday school, a store and post office with daily mail, and a sawmill which is a great convenience to the new settlers. It is true that the railroad is six miles away, but the Gulf boats are constantly coming into this port, bringing goods and people, and ready to carry to market the produce of the settlers at cheaper freight rates than any railroad would charge." According to the Pasco County Historical Preservation Committee, Babe Ruth was one of the famous visitors to this "Sleepy Fishing Village."
